Story Outline
The film starts with a teenage male character texting his ex-girlfriend about getting back together and both seem very keen. The camera will produce a few shots of the male and female seeming very enthusiastic to get back together in a relationship however this will be a very short purpose of the time unit and not take up a lot of the film. The male is then waiting for the girl, his back to the wall slouched in posture with a blank expression. His concentration will be on the technology, his headphones in his ears and the cable out of his shirt will be visible to the audience. This will relate back to how much technology is relied on and is over used by younger generations and how important it is to have the latest software. The teenage/young adult audience will then be able to relate to this. To the side of the male character there is a long, stretching, dark alley way
that the male character seems to be oblivious to, with his concentration still on the music choice he is listing too. The shot will continue for a while and switch between the diegetic sound coming from the boy’s headphones and the girl screaming, and the loud diegetic sound from the boys perspective of the headphones being listened to (sound bridge). This will give the feeling that the audience are connected more with the protagonist male character and have a bigger impact on what happens to that character.
A female then starts to walk down from the alley way, the male teen unaware that she is there, she is clothed in a red vest that reveals her full length of arms; she is also wearing jeans that are very tight on the leg and shows the shape of her figure, the camera will objectify this as it will be through the male gaze. When she is walking there will be a shot of her legs that pan up to her bum, then a following shot of her lips and bottom half of her mouth. This relates back to feminist and Freudian theory showing she is a vulnerable, helpless young woman. These shots will be quick to build tension against the next long shot of the male teen standing slouched against the wall still not noted that she is there, with the audio still coming from his iPod.
With a long shot you start to notice a figure appearing in the alleyway behind the female teenager, the audience start to feel worried for the female figure. The female character is still yet unaware of the figure present and the male teen is also completely oblivious to his ex-partner being so close, as well as the unknown anonymous person lurking behind. The shot of the teenagers face is then still, with the figure behind dressed in dark clothing, wearing a hoody (the figure still unknown to be a man or woman). The figure grabs the leg of the girl and slams her to the ground, as this happens she drops her phone, this shows her last hope of safety disappearing as she could’ve rang for help. The audience will be confused about why this is happening. This enigma code will keep the audience actively engaged in the film. She then starts to scream loudly and starts to scramble in a panic. The sound of her scream will be present as it cuts to the next shot of the male teen standing there waiting for the female (who now fulfils the princess role).
The audience will hear the sound of his music playing loudly making it obvious that he can’t hear anything else, even when the female character is being attacked behind him. The long shots of the male teen holds the attention of the audience and builds more tension against the many quick shots of the female being attacked. As she is struggling, her top gets lifted up and her belly button is revealed, this signifies a sexual orifice. At the moment of the attack all of her strength to retaliate has been lost. A blade is then pressed into the flesh of her belly; the knife deeply in focus on the camera pushes into her skin. This represents metaphorical rape as a male figure is dominating her, showing a patriarchal society, with the idea that all men own society and are there to keep women in their place. On the close up shot there is a symbol on the hand that catches the audience’s attention. A louder final scream happens and the male teen is still unaware of what is happening.
The focus is back onto the male teen, his facial expression looking confused he slowly lifts his hand up to his ear to remove an earphone the sound then cuts into one ear (speaker) the shot being in his own point of view. He hears nothing, the attacker and the victim are long gone. He looks back down at his phone and sees the time; his expressions then change to being angry yet upset as he feels like his ex-partner has stood him up. He sends a final text saying “You stood me up again, just don’t fucking bother.” then walks off.
We then see the bus pull up and he gets on, sits down and we see his head resting against the window slouched even more than he was. At this moment of the film the shots are held very long focusing on the protagonist and his music. The bus starts to slow down and then finally comes to a stop. The tension then builds on a low shot of feet walking up the isle of the bus towards the male protagonist. This shot will move along with the footsteps and focus on the shoes. The audience will feel confused, this uses the enigma code because what is about to happen is un-explained, yet there is a lot of tension and the music will be intense to keep them interested.
A shot of a metal support rail on the bus will be shown with the male protagonist also in the shot from the side view. It will then cut in, the sound of the hard heel shoes echo up and carry on this other long shot will build tension for the audience. The next shot of a hand with the same symbol that we see earlier on (on the murderers hand) will run up the metal support rail, this shows that this unknown character is in power as the metal bar resembles a phallic symbol. The audience should then be able to connect these two links. Due to the demographical audience I am aiming at they will be able to work out that it is the same person that has murdered the female playing the princess role. The hand then stops on the support rail and slowly grasps around the bar tightly. The symbol on the unknown characters hand will have a very close up shot taking up nearly the whole frame. The boy then looks up confused “Dad?” and the man will reply “Hello son”. There will be a sudden music note then it will go right into a black frame, the black frame is held then the title text will fade onto it this then fades back onto a time elapse of the bus at night time with the camera set at a very low shutter speed, as this is happening the starting credits will start to display.
