Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in progression from it to the full product?
Since my preliminary task I have learnt and progressed in a number or areas, these areas include organisation skills, creativity, design, my independent skills, my ability to work in a team and the detail applied to my production to improve its quality. I have vastly improved my continuity editing skills because of the research I have carried out on different continuity techniques such as ‘match on action’ and ‘shot reverse
shot’ has helped me to notice when certain shots need to be shot again to achieve perfection and complete continuity, thus creating a higher standard of quality. My organisation skills have improved dramatically since shooting my preliminary video as a two minute production for A-level media requires greater planning and more attention to detail which I began to realise soon after starting the planning for my production. My organisation skills have also improved because I had to take on the role of organising my actors and props so they are all in the right place at the right time when we needed to film our production. I have tried my best to improve my creativity and design by incorporating a range of different shots alongside a burst of colourful clothing worn by a male character in my production that would appeal to my audience of the same age. The colourful clothing bought about the attention of my target audience as it was the style and colour of clothing that my targeted age group enjoy wearing, which was a good creativity/design decision. I am quite a strong character when it comes to working in a team as I am passionate about getting my work done and getting it done on time with a good quality finish, because of this I tended to take on the role of the leader. I managed to keep the group together with regular meet ups and work sessions to make sure the work was always achieved on time. Everyone remained friends and there was minimal stress within the group, thus improving my ability to work in a team. As well as working in a team I also had to work independently on a number of occasions which was fine because I concentrate more when I am working by myself. All the research and planning was done by working individually, and in doing so I managed to meet deadlines consistently by getting everything done as soon as possible. My independent skills have improved because I have grown more confident in my own work and what I think is good quality, I have also learnt to
do work as soon as I get it, and to incorporate whatever media I think suites a particular piece of work.
In conclusion, I believe I have developed my ability to work in a team the most as I am usually quite a shy person who doesn’t like to voice opinions and ideas. However, working in a team with people I have never worked with before allowed me to become a strong character from the start, encouraging me to engage in discussions and decision making when filming and editing my media product. As I did not take part in any acting or modelling within my media product (purely because of shyness) I would like to have the opportunity to be able to develop my skills and confidence in that area ready for A2 media.
